Vintage Suitcase Redo

I've been working on my items for the craft fair, and was so excited about this one, I just had to share!  Sorry for the little break from my 31 Days Until a Craft Show Series, but I did warn you that I like to do new things all the time.  There is a ton of info on my series so far, and you'll have to stay tuned for more very soon!

I found this project here at Graphics Fairy.  If you have not been to Graphics Fairy's website, yet, you need to get over there.  She has so many awesome FREE graphics and a ton of ideas on how to use them.  I was looking through Pinterest, and ran into her tutorial on how to make a sheet music covered suitcase.  I knew right away that I had to do this and that I had the perfect suitcase for it!

Stain Ridden Vintage Suitcase
It is actually a wood suitcase, but had holes worn through

Very stained looking
After
This looks so amazing, I almost hope it doesn't sell!  I can't believe how much Mod Podge can improve an old dilapidated item!  I promise that no music was injured in this project.  I found a couple of music books that were in really bad shape at a rummage and I knew that I wanted to do some projects with vintage music.
Back side after
I even like the back side that has no picture on it.  That picture really adds to the suitcase!
Side view

I was worried as I put the music on the front, until the sides were finished.  The sides really makes it look professional!   The only thing I changed about this project from the Graphics Fairy, is that I put the print face right side up when you stand the suitcase up.  I wanted it to be the right way when you set it in a corner for decoration.  This would be great for storage of extra music, decorations, or whatever.

Please let me know what you think!  I love it.  Also, if you have suggestions as to pricing, please let me know..

  6. OH boy, you did such a wonderful job of covering that suitcase. It's incredible. I was so excited about the music covering it I forgot to see what image you put on front.
I'd love to cover an old brown samsonite suitcase but I'm not exactly Mrs. handy hands. I get too impatient. Maybe I could impose on dear old hubs to help me.
I have a big U.S.map so might just try that after copying different sections of it. No wonder I go thru so much ink for printer. That and printing out awesome projects like yours. I'm going to subscribe before I send this comment. Happy Week.

DIY Pig Feeder

This is our second year of raising pigs for the fair.  We've had some bumps along the way, one of them was our homemade feeder of last year.  I tend to have ideas, and then Mr. Right gets the pleasure of trying to execute my ideas.  Most of the time it works out, but last year, our feeder was a fail.   This year, we need a feeder that can go a long period of time, since our pigs are not on our property where we live.  Our neighbor made a complaint about the smell of the pigs last year to our landlord, so the landlord told us no more pigs. (Keep in mind, there are only 2 pigs on 6 acres and they are only here for 5 months and then go to the 4-H fair and livestock auction) Thankfully, another neighbor graciously allowed us to pen up a corner of her horse pen, to put our pigs in.    This year, I wanted to be sure that Mr. Right did a quality version of the pig feeder that would make it through the entire five months, and hopefully...

Drop Cloth Couch Re-do

It's my 100th Post!  What a great big reveal I have in store for you today! Three years ago, I found  Miss Mustard Seeds' 6 part How to Make Slipcovers Series  and started with watching the first video.  I ran out to Home Depot and purchased two drop clothes, washed and bleached them to get ready for making the slipcovers for my two couches, and there they sat folded nicely in my craft room!  A year ago, we moved across the country, so I packed those drop clothes up in a box, clearly marked them and put them on the truck.  When we arrived, I put them in front of all my other boxes to do first.  We even moved again over Christmas, and I moved that box again!  Then, I did a pillow re-do,  HERE  that pushed me over the edge.  I just had to tackle those slip covers! Before of the couch and the pillows that began the entire thing!  I  had a Saturday, where the guys were doing guy things and it was me and the girls hom...

Local Harvest

I am so surprised at the amount of people who don't take advantage of local farmers and produce!  We heard about a place called "Tomato Toms" and just had to check it out. (Especially since it seems nearly impossible to grow tomatoes in our town.  I think it's something about the elevation)  We took a Sunday afternoon to drive to explore local produce and find Tomato Tom. This drive, I thought for sure that no one could be possibly growing anything on such dry land (see the background to the first picture, below).  Then we drove up a scary driveway and look what we found: Tomato Toms was a fantastic sizable garden of u-pick heaven!  We picked 60 pounds of tomatoes in 10 minutes.  Then took about twenty more minutes to figure out just what onions and peppers we needed to go with our tomatoes. The tomatoes weren't store perfect, as in no blemishes or anything, but they were beautiful and tasted wonderful off the vine!  I don't normally ...
